Life has a funny way of surprising us. There was a moment when I felt completely overwhelmed, so I did something spontaneous: I grabbed a map of the UK (yes, we still used paper maps back then), closed my eyes, and let my finger land on Devon. That became my home for three months.
Fast forward twenty years, and I’m still here. Along the way, I’ve learned about personal growth, self-discovery, and finding purpose. Every day brings opportunities to learn, and one quote I love has stayed with me: “Great opportunities to help people seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.”
Discovering a Passion Later in Life
I’ve always been fascinated by human behaviour, but it wasn’t until later in life that I truly pursued it. I explored areas I had long been curious about but hadn’t had the chance to dive into earlier: counselling, psychology, communication skills, and life coaching.
At the same time, my career journey spanned diverse roles in international education, financial services, and education technology. I started off with zero English, clearing tables in a lovely café by the beach, and gradually grew into management.
Today, I am qualified to teach English to non-native speakers, have decades of managerial experience, and a portfolio full of incredible colleagues, mentors, friends, and family. Each experience opened my mind, deepened my understanding of people, and strengthened my coaching perspective.
Unexpected Tools for Clarity: Meditation and Tarot
One of the most unexpected discoveries in my journey has been using meditation and Tarot as coaching tools. What started as curiosity became a way to help others gain clarity, connect the dots in their lives, and reflect on their own patterns. It also taught me a valuable lesson: being a “Jack of all trades” is a strength, not a limitation.
Lessons in Self-Discovery
Self-discovery isn’t always comfortable. Calm seas never made a skilled sailor, after all. Many of us—career-driven, goal-focused, perfection-minded—run through life searching for more: more recognition, more success, more achievements. But what if more isn’t about status? What if more is about kindness, awareness, and courage—the courage to say, “I was wrong,” and the courage to say, “My gut instinct was right.”
Perspective Matters
Perspective is everything, and supporting that perspective is my passion.
If your career, passion, or daily grind feels overwhelming, pause. Take a breath.
Just for a moment, reflect on the little things: a ray of sunshine, a walk in the rain, moments of simplicity and peace. In a busy world, these are the moments that matter.
See you next time.
